Parallel buses, USB, and serial buses

Inside a computer and between devices, data moves over buses: shared sets of lines with agreed rules. The story of buses is a shift from wide parallel ribbons to fast serial links, and knowing both explains everything from a PC's graphics slot to the two wires that link a sensor to a microcontroller.
