Nucleic acids

Nucleic acids are the only macromolecules whose job is information: DNA archives the instructions for building every protein an organism will ever need, and RNA carries those instructions to the machinery that reads them. Both are built from the same small part — the nucleotide — arranged into a code written in four letters.
