Connected pathways and their regulation
You eat more than glucose - yet everything on the plate ends up in the same two pathways. Carbohydrates, fats, and proteins all feed into glycolysis and the citric acid cycle at different entry points, which is what makes a turkey sandwich usable as fuel. And because the cell also needs intermediates for building, not just burning, the whole network is throttled by feedback. This is metabolism as one connected, controlled system.
