Connection-oriented transport: TCP

TCP carries the web, email, file transfer and much more. It turns IP's unreliable datagrams into a reliable, ordered byte stream, using the principles of the previous topic plus a few clever refinements: byte-numbered sequence numbers, adaptive timeouts, fast retransmit and flow control.
