Synchronous motors, synchronous condensers, and reluctance motors

A synchronous motor turns in exact step with the supply frequency, whatever its load, and by adjusting its field it can even correct a plant's power factor. Reluctance motors reach the same lock-step with nothing on the rotor but shaped iron.
