Pulse-width modulation, DC motor drives, inverters, and AC motor drives

Modern power electronics controls large amounts of power by switching transistors fully on and fully off thousands of times a second. Varying the width of those pulses sets the speed of a dc motor, and shaping them builds the ac that drives induction motors, solar inverters and electric vehicles.
