Coupled equilibria
Real solutions rarely hold just one equilibrium. When two equilibria share a species, a change in one is passed on to the other, which is how ammonia dissolves silver chloride, how acids attack tooth enamel and how extra carbon dioxide threatens shell-building sea life.
