Aldehydes, ketones, acids, and esters
A carbon double-bonded to an oxygen, the carbonyl group, sits at the heart of four families: aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids and esters. Between them they give us vinegar, nail-polish remover, fruit flavours, fats and polyester shirts.
